Chelsea Piers Wins Five Events at Ithaca Speedo Sectionals

Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club won five of ten events on night three of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Ithaca, NY.

They currently lead the team scores with 817 points heading into the final day of competition, followed by Crimson (409), Nys Aquatics (369), Schenectady-Saratoga (299) and Seacoast (274).

Victor’s Megan Deuel dropped over four seconds from her morning swim to win the women’s 200 fly in 1:58.29. Crimson’s Andrea Wei placed second in 1:58.84 and Nys’ Joy Jiang finished third in 1:59.51 as the only swimmers under the two-minute barrier.

Fourteen-year-old Tyler Sicignano of Chelsea Piers won the men’s 200 fly by over two seconds, stopping the clock in 1:49.21. Eastern Express’ Andrew Sukach was second in 1:51.57 and Morris County’s Justin Viotto was third in 1:51.80.

Chelsea Piers’ Katherine Douglass sprinted her way to first place in the women’s 50 free, doing so in a quick 22.37. Her teammate Bridget Semenuk took second in 22.74 and Condors’ Christiana Regenauer placed third in 22.79.

Tidal Wave’s Kai Legband splashed and dashed his way to a win in the men’s 50 free in 20.80. Second went to Laguardia’s Andy Lee (21.01) and third went to Seacoast’s Brendan Sullivan (21.19).

Chelsea Piers’ Mary Christensen knocked off almost five seconds from her prelims time to win the women’s 200 breast in 2:12.13. Schenectady-Saratoga’s Olivia Jack placed second in 2:13.26 and SoCo’s Angela Gambardella finished third in 2:18.82.

Chelsea Piers’ Benjamin Feldman also knocked off five seconds from his morning time in the men’s 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:01.90. Mercury’s Aidan Kreiley placed second in 2:03.41 and third went to Northern Dutchess’ Thomas Graminski in 2:04.13.

Jersey Flyers’ Shayna Hollander cruised to first in the women’s 100 back in 53.80. Edge’s Ella Miller grabbed second in 54.67 and Deuel was third in 55.07.

Upper Valley’s Jack Wadsworth earned the gold in the men’s 100 back, posting a final time of 49.67. North Shore’s Jared Daigle grabbed the silver in 49.81 and bronze went to Tidal Wave’s Anthony Rincon in 49.98.

Chelsea Piers’ Elizabeth Boeckman dominated the women’s 500 free, getting her hand to the wall in 4:49.40 for the win. Blue Devils’ Tylor Mathieu finished second in 4:51.83 and Chelsea Piers’ Alexandra Truwit took third in 4:52.07.

Cole Kuster of Purple Valley won the men’s 500 in a time of 4:29.01, followed by Nys’ Matthew Styczen in 4:31.77 and Aquabears’ James Plage in a close 4:31.92.

Prelims for the final day of competition will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. EST.
