Chelsea Piers Leads After Day Two of Ithaca Speedo Sectionals

Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club had a strong second day of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Ithaca, NY. They currently lead the team scores with 380 points, followed by Crimson (192), Seacoast (152), Nys Aquatics (138) and Schenectady-Saratoga (137).

Chelsea Piers’ Bridget Semenuk won the women’s 200 free by over two seconds, stopping the clock in 1:47.05. Fourteen-year-old Natalie Mannion of Commonwealth took second in 1:49.28 and Chelsea Piers’ Alexandra Truwit was third in 1:49.70.

Chelsea Piers’ Cole Pierce won a close men’s 200 free battle, getting his hand to the wall first in 1:40.63. North Shore’s Jared Daigle (1:40.81) was close behind in second and Pioneer Valley’s Eric Eastham (1:40.87) finished third.

A close women’s 100 breast race went to Schenectady-Saratoga’s Olivia Jack, who is committed to swim at Penn State, with a quick 1:00.58. Chelsea Piers’ Katherine Douglass was right behind in 1:00.62 for second and her teammate Mary Christensen took third in 1:00.65.

Crimson’s Mitchell Gariepy, who will swim at South Carolina this fall, cruised to first in the men’s 100 breast after touching the wall in 55.20. Second went to Seacoast’s Marc Bourgeois (56.43) and third went to Adirondack Bluefins’ Ryan Board (56.44).

Not too long after taking second in the women’s 100 breast, Douglass found herself on top of the podium after winning the 100 fly in 53.97. Victor’s Megan Deuel swam to second in 54.03 and Crimson’s Andrea Wei wound up third in 54.13.

New York Sharks’ Chauncey Nicholas was the only swimmer to crack 50-seconds in the men’s 100 fly, doing so in a winning time of 49.92. Chelsea Piers’ Tyler Sicignano was second in 50.03 and Stingrays’ Jake McBride was third in 50.16.

Blue Devil’s Miku Takabayashi, who will soon swim at Brown, earned the gold in the women’s 400 IM after dropping over five seconds from her entry time to post a final time of 4:19.24. Seacoast’s Emma Whall grabbed the silver in 4:24.22 and bronze went to Crimson’s Alexandra Robertson in 4:26.21.

After taking second in the men’s 200 free earlier tonight, future Michigan Wolverine Daigle won the men’s 400 IM in 3:56.64. New York Sharks’ Matthew Styczen finished second in 3:57.83 and Weston’s Nathan Katz took third in 3:59.67 as the only swimmers under the four-minute barrier.

Schenectady-Saratoga’s Olivia Jack (1:53.40), Elaine Lipkin (1:54.20), Mary Conway (1:51.98) and Yunfan Dong (1:55.06) won the women’s 4×200 free relay in 7:34.64. Crimson finished second in 7:38.49 and Commonwealth was third in 7:39.83.

Adirondack Bluefins’ Liam Picozzi (1:42.52), Timothy Maggs (1:43.16), Zachary Boekeloo (1:45.56) and Everett McNair (1:43.30) won the men’s 4×200 free relay in 6:54.54. Morris County was second in 6:56.21 and Eastern Express finished third in 6:57.60.

Prelims for the third day of competition begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. EST.
