Arizona State vs. UCLA

LOS ANGELES, California, November 14. THE 16th-ranked UCLA swim and dive team continued their undefeated season with a big win over visiting No. 16 ASU on Friday afternoon. The Bruins won 13 of the 16 events contested, tallied 101 season-bests and swept five events en route to a 195-105 win. UCLA improves to 4-0 (2-0 Pac-10), while ASU falls to 0-3 (0-1 Pac-10). Today's win gives UCLA an 18-8-1 all-time record against the Sun Devils.

The divers started the meet off with a bang as the Bruins swept both one-meter and three-meter. Senior Marisa Samaniego led the team with wins on both boards as she also became the first diver to qualify for the NCAA Zone E Championships. Samaniego won one-meter with a season-best score of 276.75 and then capped off her day with a three-meter score of 299.18 to win.

Freshmen Alyssa Robinson made her UCLA debut on Friday and finished second on both one-meter (252.15) and three-meter (273.07), while senior Brittany Hill was the third-place scorer on both boards (1M-247.05/3M-263.32).

In swimming events, UCLA opened up the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of senior Madeleine Stanton, sophomore Brittany Beauchan and freshmen Yasi Jahanshahi and Madison Fitzgerald touched first in 1:44.59.

Stanton and senior Anna Poteete tallied double event wins during the meet. Stanton won both the 100 (56.24) and 200 (2:01.46) backstrokes. Poteete was victorious in the 50 (23.42) and 100 (50.45) freestyles.

Sophomore Emily Bibb led a Bruin sweep in the 1000 free as she finished first in a time of 10:07.99. Sophomores Sam Vanden Berge (2nd, 10:10.31) and Dani Milligan (3rd, 10:14.29) rounded out the sweep.

The Bruins also had sweeps in the 500 free and 400 IM. Freshman Jennifer Lamb touched first in the 500 free in a time of 4:56.24, while Bibb (4:56.49) and Vanden Berge (5:03.26) placed second and third, respectively. In the 400 IM, sophomore Lauren Hall led the sweep with her time of 4:22.16. Milligan was second (4:25.24) and senior Kristen Fischer (4:25.86) was third.

Also posting victories during the meet were Beauchan in the 100 breast (1:04.50) and Jahanshahi in the 200 butterfly (2:01.06).

The 400 freestyle relay team of Fitzgerald, Bibb, Poteete and Hall wrapped up the meet with a win as they touched first in 3:27.81.

UCLA will return to action on Saturday when they face No. 4 Arizona. The diving portion of the meet will be held at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center beginning at 11:00 am, while swimming will start at noon at the Men's Gym Pool.
