93 New Records in the Mexican Masters Nationals Short Course Meet

OAXTEPEC, MORELOS, Mexico, April 11. With a total of 93 new records (52 in men and 41 in women), the Masters National Short Course Meet in Mexico came to an end last Sunday May 4th. The event was held at the Club Dorados with an outstanding weather (average temperature of 91°F) and assistance of nearly 1000 swimmers of 52 teams from all over the country.

The Casablanca Club swimming team is the new champion (total points) for this year followed by Acuática Nelson Vargas and IMSS on second and third places respectively.

The most notable performers at this year’s championship are: Rosa María Segura, Ursula Sieber, Dulce Rojas, Laura Vaca, Lorena Pontones, Gabriela Berrueta, Alejandro Moreno, Samuel Jaime (91 years old), Abraham Rodríguez, Salvador Sánchez and Fernando Nájera.

Much like the United States Masters Nationals, the final results by team were split into three different categories: 1 to 15 swimmers, 16 to 35 swimmers and 36 or more swimmers. With this the final results were: (the number of event wins by each team are in parenthesis)

1ST. ACUAGYM GUADALAJARA (21 GOLD MEDALS)
2ND. ACALLI GUADALAJARA (15 GOLD MEDALS)
3RD. CUICACALI EDO. MEX. (10 GOLD MEDALS)

16 to 35 swimmers
1ST. IMSS MORELIA (11 GOLD MEDALS)
2ND. CENSODEP (8 GOLD MEDALS)
3RD. BERIMBAU (5 GOLD MEDALS)

36 or more swimmers
1ST. CASABLANCA (101 GOLD MEDALS)
2ND. ACUATICA NELSON VARGAS (92 GOLD MEDALS)
3RD. IMSS (41 GOLD MEDALS)
