Pine Lake Prep Women, Washington Men Dominate North Carolina 1A/2A High School State Championships

North Carolina high school state championships kicked off last night with the 1A/2A meet. Lake Norman Charter’s team of Anna RubelRiggan AyscueMattie Luther, and Kara Jones finished first in the women’s 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.00. Carrboro’s Paloma BacaAudrey CostleyOlivia Weigle, and Anneliese Merry touched second in 1:52.06. Emma PeckSydney ParsonsHeidi Curtis, and Lilly Whalen of Raleigh Charter were third in 1:52.11.

In the men’s 200 medley relay, Washington’s Kevin AndrewsPatrick LovenbergAJ Howard, and Justin Clark took first in a time of 1:38.15. The Bishop McGuinness team of Ethan ChasePatrick LancasterThomas HamletPaul Farley was second in 1:42.29. Third place went to Lincoln Charter’s Jackson LawNeal StrattonZach WhippleGrant Swicegood in 1:42.35.

Dropping over five seconds from prelims, Croatan’s Lyndsey Reeve won the women’s 200 freestyle in 1:50.99. Sydney Willis of Raleigh Charter was second in 1:52.04, and Baca was third in 1:54.07.

The men’s 200 freestyle went to Washington’s Andrews in 1:41.59, over two seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. First Flight’s Hunter Crook took second in 1:43.45. Whipple was third in 1:44.82.

Comm of Davidson freshman Emme Nelson won the women’s 200 IM in 2:03.98. Ayscue was second in 2:08.74, while Carrboro’s Merry finished third in 2:09.89.

Ethan Knorr of Salisbury won the men’s 200 IM by over five seconds in a time of 1:53.83. Atkins’s Dylan Fore touched second in 1:58.19. Croatan’s James Reindl was third in 1:59.01.

Pine Lake Prep’s Allyson Accordino took the women’s 50 freestyle in 23.80. Ann Carr, representing River Mill Academy, was second in 24.31, just ahead of Wilkes Central’s Sarah Olson 24.36.

East Carteret’s Cameron Harding won the men’s 50 freestyle, touching in 21.89. SW Edgecombe’s Jack Coltrane took second in 22.04. Howard was third in 22.26.

The women’s 100 butterfly went to Lincoln Charter’s Alexandria Baker with a time of 55.43. Baker’s teammate Chloe Harris was second in 55.69. Salisbury’s Kathryn Morrison was just behind in 55.73.

Bishop McGuinness’s Hamlet won the men’s 100 butterfly in 51.35. Whipple was second in 52.21. Third place went to Howard in 52.26.

Baker picked up her second win in the women’s 100 freestyle, finishing in 51.33. Accordino was close behind in 51.60. Olson took third place in 53.30.

Colrane claimed the men’s 100 freestyle in 48.62. Shelby’s Davis Kennedy took second in 48.85. Harding was third in 49.58.

Willis took the women’s 500 freestyle in 4:58.98. Reeve finished second in 5:02.65, while Baca touched third in 5:04.90.

Knorr took his second event of the meet in the men’s 500 freestyle with a time of 4:33.98. Crook placed second in 4:34.79. Croatan’s John David McCray was third 4:46.51.

The Pine Lake Prep team of Accordino, Maddie MarshKensley Rasbornik, and Rose Auten won the women’s 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.96. Second place went to Lincoln Charter’s Harris, Julianna LappinElizabeth Walter, and Baker with a time of 1:40.11. Raleigh Charter’s team of Peck, Hannalee Ellison, Whalen, and Willis was third in 1:42.42.

The men’s 200 freestyle relay went to Shelby’s Keith ChungJay WilsonJack Lari, and Kennedy in 1:31.21. Lincoln Charter’s team of Swicegood, Stratton, Law, and Whipple touched second in 1:31.65. Third place went to Washingotn’s Clark, Harrison Schmidt, Patrick Lovenberg, and Tony Lovenberg.

Morrison won the women’s 100 backstroke by two and a half seconds with a time of 55.26. Harris finished second in 57.72, while Avery Tucker of East Surry took third in 59.47.

In the men’s 100 backstroke, Hamlet picked up another win, with a time of 50.66. Andrews was second in 51.16. Third place went to Reindl with a time of 54.00.

Nelson won again, this time in the women’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.94. Ayscue took second in 1:05.01, with Piper Burton from East Davidson touching third in 1:06.82.

The men’s 100 breaststroke went to Fore in a time of 1:00.81. Durham Arts’s Myles Sims was second in 1:01.12. Jason Starbuck, representing Raleigh Charter, finished third in 1:01.62.

Pine Lake Prep took the state championship in the women’s 400 freestyle relay. Rachel Daly, Marsh, Rasbornik, and Accordino teamed up for a time of 3:39.38. Second place went to Carrboro’s team of Merry, Lucy Carroll, Costley, and Baca in 3:42.39. East Surry’s team of Ashley HicksAnne-Louise TunstallJulie Hicks, and Tucker touched in 3:44.86.

Washington’s Andrews, Hodges Tubaugh, Tony Lovenberg, and Howard won the men’s 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.29. Colby LovelessEthan Loveless, McCray, and Reindl of Croatan finished second in 3:22.58. Third place went to Salibury’s team of Knorr, Keegan DillonJoe Steinman, and Roarke Burton in 3:25.68.

The Pine Lake Prep women won the team title with 332 points. Raleigh Charter was second with 241.5 points. Third place went to Carrboro with 220 points.

The men’s title went to Washington with 256 points. Croatan took second place with 187 points, and Lincoln Charter was third with 150 points.
