Zurich International Meet: Flori Lang Double in Sprint Knockouts

ZURICH, Switzerland, February 26. THE Zurich International Meet came to a close with a second day of long course meter competition. Without Ian Thorpe swimming today, however, it lost a bit of its star power.

Flori Lang captured a pair of sprint knockout triumphs on the second day. First, he claimed the men's 50 back, 26.84 to 26.97, over Mark Fischer. Then, he downed Tony-Lukas Fitterer, 23.29 to 25.26, in the men's 50 free.

In other sprint knockout finals, Martin Schweizer beat Attilio Bernasconi, 24.64 to 24.69, in the men's 50 free, while Stephanie Spahn bested Sibylle Dalacker, 33.57 to 34.86, in the women's 50 breast. Danielle Villars topped Sarah Silveira, 28.25 to 28.95, in the women's 50 fly.

Yannick Kaser earned the men's 100 breast title in 1:05.15, while Michal Rubacek topped the men's 100 fly in 55.78. Jovan Mirtovic claimed the men's 200 IM in 2:09.77, while Elijah Stolz won the men's 200 back in 2:10.81.

Annick van Westendorp won the women's 400 IM in 5:05.33, while Dorte Baumert earned the women's 100 back title in a meet-record 1:05.19. Sita Kusserow picked up the women's 200 fly crown in 2:22.21, while Julia Hassler snared the women's 400 free in a meet-record 4:22.18. Jennifer Bovay touched in 2:36.06 to win the women's 200 breast.
