BARCELONA, Spain, June 26. WHILE the United States and Great Britain are choosing the athletes who will compete in the pool swimming events at the world championships, organizers have begun construction on the competition pool in Barcelona's famed Palau Sant Jordi.

Myrtha Pools, the company that has been the go-to company for temporary state-of-the-art pools around the world, is supervising installation of the pool, which is being touted as its best design to date, with special features to create the fastest pool in the world. Myrtha Pools constructed the pools used in Omaha, Neb., in the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

According to an article posted by meet organizers on bcn2013.com, the pool will feature "intelligent and superior materials: stainless steel for the structure, PVC for waterproofing and ceramic tiles."

Construction on the training pool just outside the Palau Sant Jordi began last week.

After a test event in the pool in the coming weeks, synchronized swimming will be the first official event used in the pool from July 20 to 27, followed by swimming the next day.
