After 16 Years at Loughborough, Ben Titley Ready for Move to Canada

LONDON, England, October 1. SHORTLY after talking to Liam Tancock about his future swimming goals, which possibly will include a trip to the 2016 Olympics, London's SportsBeat caught up with his longtime coach, Ben Titley, whose future is taking him to Canada.

Titley announced shortly after the Olympics that he was moving from Loughborough University after 16 years to lead the Canadian National Swim Center in Toronto, a move brought on partly by the recent marriage to his Canadian-born wife. Titley is set to make the move this month.

In his interview with SportsBeat, Titley said “I'm excited about getting out there and getting involved and setting in place the things I've learned here (in Loughborough) … and helping Canadian coaches and Canadian swimmers achieve their goals.”

Ben Titley talks about reasons behind move to Canada:

Also, Titley analyzed the British swimmers' performances at the Olympics, calling himself “the king of the fourths and fifths.” Many of his swimmers made the finals in London, but were just shy of the medal stand.

“We are frustrated we aren't winning medals, but imagine the 20 years prior to 2008 when you only had four spaced out over 20 years who made a final,” Titley said.
“I think we have to be realistic about where we have come from, and in a global sport like swimming what a country like Britain can achieve.”
