LONDON, England, August 8. A day after Russia's Ilya Zakharov stopped the China freight train from rolling to a gold medal sweep in diving, Chen Ruolin put China back on top during the women's 10-meter preliminary qualifying rounds at the 2012 London Olympics.

Chen smoked the preliminary rounds with a 392.35 points tally, nearly 50 points ahead of Malaysia's Pandelela Rinong Pamg's second-ranked tally of 349.00 points. China's Hu Yadan also is a medal contender after qualifying sixth with 337.85 points. Chen won this title, along with synchronized gold in 2008 at just 15 years old, is looking to add another gold to her synchro title from earlier this week as well.

Germany's Christin Steuer, who wound up entering the competition following the last-minute withdrawal of Nora Subschinksi due to injury, dove well enough to qualify third with 341.75 points. Australia's Brittany Broben (339.80) and Melissa Wu (337.90) earned fourth and fifth.

USA's Katie Bell (326.95) and Brittany Viola (322.55) each qualified into semis in ninth and 14th place overall.

Great Britain had a heartbreaking outcome in prelims as Monique Gladding (301.45) and Stacie Powell (287.30) placed 19th and 20th, just outside of the semifinal rounds.

Preliminary scores are not carried over into the semifinal or final stages.
