Polish Long Course Championships: Marcin Tarczynski Downs Polish Record, Clocks FINA A Cut; Alicja Tchorz Lowers Polish Record As Well

OLSZTYN, Poland, May 13. A trio of Polish records fell during the second day of competition at the Polish Long Course Championships.

Marcin Tarczynski cleared the men's 100 back Polish record with a time of 54.12. That performance downed the 54.59 he set at the Indy Grand Prix in March, and secured him a spot in the Olympics by beating the FINA A cut of 54.40. His swim jumped him to 23rd in the world rankings. Radoslaw Kawecki (55.23) and Marcin Unold (55.67) took second and third.

Alicja Tchorz raced to a Polish record in the women's 100 back with a 1:01.02. That swim bettered the 1:01.49 set by Klaudia Nazieblo back in 2010, but just missed the FINA A cut of 1:00.82. Nazieblo wound up second in 1:02.13, while Anna Kozlowska picked up third in 1:03.64.

Katarzyna Ptasinska, Karolina Szczepaniak, Agata Kowalska and Otylia Jedrzejczak bested the Polish record in the women's 400 free relay with a 3:50.23. That swim cleared the 3:51.85 set back in 2007 by AZA AWF Warszawa as well. Marcin Unold, Karol Zaczynski, Mateusz Slawinski and Michal Poprawa won the men's 400 free relay in 3:22.95.

Karolina Szczepaniak touched out Aleksandra Putra, 2:01.15 to 2:01.27, for the women's 200 free title. Diana Sokolowska took third in 2:01.80, while Donata Kilijanska placed fourth in 2:03.13. Pawel Korzeniowski won the men's 200 free in 1:50.02, while Pawel Werner (1:50.66) and Filip Bujoczek (1:50.68) battled for second. Sebastien Szczepanski earned fourth in 1:51.35.

Szczepaniak doubled up with a 4:48.59 to win the women's 400 IM. Paula Zukowska took second in 4:52.23, while Katarzyna Zolnowska finished third in 4:57.50. Karol Zaczynski topped the men's 400 IM in 4:23.63. Jan Switkowski (4:26.10) and Dawid Szwedzki (4:27.80) placed second and third.

In non-Olympic finals, Ewa Scieszko claimed the women's 50 breast in 32.34, while Paulina Zachoszcz (32.58) and Zuzanna Chwadeczko (33.23) picked up second and third. Prezemyslaw Gorczyca touched in 28.24 for the men's 50 breast title. Piotr Pucilo (28.30) and Dawid Szulich (28.37) completed the top three.
