Italian Long Course Nationals: Sebastiano Ranfagni, Alessia Filippi Post Strong 200 Backs

RICCIONE, Italy, March 8. A pair of strong 200-meter backstroke times went into the world rankings at the Italian Long Course Nationals held in Riccione.

Sebastiano Ranfagni topped the men's 200 back in 1:57.85. He shot to third in the world rankings behind Ryosuke Irie (1:54.02) and Matt Grevers (1:57.76). Matteo Milli finished second in 1:58.84, while Federico Turrini picked up third in 1:59.17.

Alessia Filippi dominated the women's 200 back with a 2:09.37. She jumped to sixth in the world rankings with the swim. Federica Sorriso (2:12.34) and Ambra Esposito (2:13.40) earned second and third place honors.

Piero Codia won the men's 50 fly in 23.84, while Paolo Facchinelli touched just behind in 23.85. Tommaso Benatti and Lorenzo Benatti tied for third with matching 24.50s. Codia moved up to fourth in the world, while Facchinelli took fifth.

Ilaria Bianchi captured the women's 100 fly in 58.63, taking 10th overall in the world rankings. Elena Di Liddo (59.17) and Silvia Di Pietro (59.64) completed the top three.

Stefania Pirozzi claimed the women's 400 IM in 4:42.68 for 15th in the world rankings. Susanna Negri (4:47.55) and Alessia Polieri (4:47.57) finished second and third in a close battle.

Gabriele Detti notched a 3:50.53 to win the men's 400 free, while Alex Di Giorgio finished second in 3:50.89. Cesare Sciocchetti wound up third in 3:50.94. All three times were among the top 15 in the world.
