Leslie Livingston Breaks Masters World Record in Maryland

BETHESDA, Maryland, March 26. SWIMMING at the short course meters Albatross Open at the prestigiously-named Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver Aquatic Center over the weekend, Leslie Livingston reset her world record in the 50 butterfly and nearly broke another in the 100 backstroke for the 50-54 age group.

Livingston, 51, posted a blazing 29.54 in the 50 fly, becoming the oldest female under 30 seconds in the event. Her former record stood at 30.35, which she swam last December. Livingston broke the record on the first 50 of a 100 butterfly race.

Later, Livingston swam a 1:08.85 in the 100 backstroke, which would have lowered her own world record of 1:09.25, if Karlyn Pipes-Nielsen had not swum faster just last week with a 1:08.12.
