Arizona Women Hand Utah Crushing Defeat in Swimming/Diving Dual Meet

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, October 19. THE Arizona women’s swimming and diving teams had an easier time racing against Utah today than their male counterparts, beating the Utes in a blowout 204-96.

Normally, the custom is to allow the losing team to put a few extra points on the board when the outcome of the meet has been decided, but Arizona did not change any of the events to exhibition near the end of the meet. As such, the women showed swimming fans that Arizona is still a dominant team in the Pac-12 conference.

Arizona won 14 of the 16 events, with Utah’s Sami Zuch taking the victory for the Utes in the 1000 free with a 10:24.38, pulling away from Arizona’s Lauren Neidigh after 500 yards. Neidigh was a distant second with a 10:33.01. Kylie Boyce won 200 IM with a 2:08.75 to round out individual event competition.

In between those two wins, two Arizona swimmers posted three wins. Margo Geer was busy, winning the 50 free (23.22), 100 free (50.22) and 200 free (1:51.42) in her first meet toward defending her NCAA sprint freestyle titles. Bonnie Brandon, a multiple NCAA finalist in her freshman season, won both backstrokes (56.00 and 2:01.79) as well as the 500 free (4:57.38).

Emma Schoettmer swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 breast with a 1:04.24 and the 200 breast with a 2:16.80.

Ashley Evans almost posted a double win in the butterfly events, starting with a 2:01.97 in the 200 fly. But teammate Elizabeth Pepper had other plans, winning the 100 fly with a 55.97 to Evans’ 56.07.
