European Short-Course Swimming Championships: Foster Breaks World Record, Twice -- December 14, 1998

SHEFFIELD, England - Mark Foster of Great Britain broke two world records in one day at the European Short-Course Swimming Championships.

Foster twice lowered the 50m freestyle record. He swam a 21.31 to lower the 21.48 he had posted in the prelims to reclaim the record from Russian Alexander Popov.

With 20,000 German marks ($12,000) awarded for each world record, Foster won $24,000. Not bad for a day's work.
