Florida's Ryan Lochte Named SEC Swimmer of the Week -- January 20, 2004

BIRMINGHAM, Ala, January 20. UNIVERSITY of Florida sophomore Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference's Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday.

Lochte won all five individual events he swam in and added a pair of wins in relay events in helping Florida win the Dallas Morning News Classic and defeat No. 14 Texas A&M in a dual meet last week. Against the Aggies, Lochte took first in both the 1,000-yard free (9:05.68) and the 200-yard fly (1:48.86).

At the Dallas Morning News Classic, Lochte was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer after winning each of his three individual events and participating on the winning 200-yard free and 800-yard free relays. He won the 200-yard IM with an NCAA automatic time (1:47.76) and posted provisional times to win both the 500-yard free (4:21.69) and the 400-yard IM (3:47.17).
