Irina Lashko Wins One-Meter Diving at World Champs -- July 14, 2003

BARCELONA, July 14. THREE-time Olympian Irina Lashko, who won gold while representing her native Russia at the 1998 World Championships in Perth, repeated her triumph today in the one-meter springboard diving. This time, however, the 30 year-old favorite was represensting her adopted land, Australia.

Lasko scored 299.97 points to edge Germany's Conny Schmalfuss, who took silver with 296.13. Defending world champion, Canada's Blythe Hartley, a student at the University of Southern California, was a close third with 291.33 points. Hartley led through the semis.

The USA's Rachel Kunkel finished 11th in the semifinals.
