NCAA Div. I Women: Utah Dunks San Diego State, 173-113 -- October 27, 2002

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 27. THE Utah women’s swimming and diving team beat San Diego State on Saturday 173-113, to improve their record to 2-0 (1-0 in the conference).

The win was the first conference victory for the Utes and caps an undefeated opening weekend. Utah won 15 of 16 events against the Aztecs.

"This was a great week for the women, and a great start to get our first conference win," said head coach Michael Litzinger. "We are now looking forward to BYU."

Neringa Statkeviciute was a quadruple event winner for the Utes, winning the 50 free (24.52), 100 free (52.01), 400 medley relay (3:57.61) with teammates Melissa Young, Tessa Greegor and Meghan Demchuk. Statekeviciute also swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:38.82) along with Amy Barefield, Young and Demchuk.

Kristen Kaiser was a three-event winner by winning the 1000 free (10:23.10), 500 free (5:07.57), and the 400 IM (4:31.56).

Melissa Young won three events as well with her win in the 100 back to go with her two relay wins.

On the diving front, Sara Neilson won the one-meter dive with a score of 183.80 and the three-meter with a score of 179.35.

Utah next plays Brigham Young on Friday, Nov. 1, both the men and women will compete.
