NCAA Div. I: Utah Sweeps UC Irvine -- October 26, 2002

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 25. THE Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams beat UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 25. The men won by a score of 168-130, while the women won 165.5-132. Both teams open up 1-0.

The Utah men's team won 12 of 16 events. Leading the way for the men was Cody Rempfer who won four events: 200 butterfly (1:49.71), 100 fly (50.77 meet record), 200 IM (1:53.20) and the medley relay (1:33.83, meet record) along with Evan Castro, David Johnson and Jon Larsen.

Larsen was a three-event winner: medley relay, 100 free (46.15 meet record), and 400 free relay (3:10.58) composed of Larsen, Matan Ratz, Jon Kane and Tanner Folster. Matan Ratz also set a meet record in the 200 free (1:42.44).

The women's team posted victories in 11 of 16 events. Loren Sweny won three events: 1000 free (10:15.08), 200 back (2:06.85) and the 400 free relay (3:34.66) along with Amy Barefield, Amber Walker and Neringa Statkeviciute.

The women will open conference play on Saturday, Oct. 26 against San Diego State at 9:00 a.m. (PT), while the men don't play again until Nov. 1 at Brigham Young.
