Georgia Tech Hosts Emory in Season-Opener

ATLANTA, Oct. 24. LOOKING to build on an impressive first season as a combined program, the Georgia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the 2002-03 season Friday at 7 p.m. versus Emory. The meet will be held at the Eagles' Woodruff P.E. Center.

Tech swept Emory in last year's meeting, with the Yellow Jacket men defeating the Eagles, 136-96, extending their all-time mark in the cross-town series to 74-4. The women's team downed EU, 127-113, in their first-ever meeting.

Senior All-American Shilo Ayalon, as well as All-ACC returnees Josh Hersko, Paul McCarty and James Salazar are expected to lead the Jackets. NCAA qualifier Tomonori Tsuji should also make an impact Friday. Additionally, 11 newcomers will make their collegiate debuts for the Tech men.

Sophomore NCAA qualifier Cara DeVinny and All-ACC classmate Anna Saum should pace the women's team against the Eagles. Amy Sutton returns as the top women's diver. The women also added seven highly-regarded freshmen that will also make a huge impact this season.

One of the top Division III teams in the nation, Emory swept Division I opponent Davidson in its first action of the season on October 19. The men (1-0) defeated the Wildcats, 162-70, while the women (1-0) were victorious, 144-97. Both teams placed third at last season's NCAA Division III championships.

Following this week's action, Tech travels south, as the women meet North Florida on November 1, while the both teams open the ACC slate against Florida State on November 2.
