SHANGHAI, China, July 29. SWEDEN's Therese Alshammar set a course for a world title in the women's 50 fly, which has become her dominion.

Alshammar, swimming at the FINA World Long Course Championships, checked in with a 25.52 for the top time out of the semifinal rounds. She will be gunning for her world record of 25.07 during finals, as well as her textile best of 25.37 from last month.

"I'm happy with that race, and enjoyed it a lot," Alshammar said. "I felt better tonight than this morning, and am looking forward to the final. I'm really excited to see what the final will bring."

The Netherlands' Inge Dekker qualified second in 25.78, while China's Lu Ying took third in 25.87, and will be the closest challengers to Alshammar in the finale.

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom (25.90), Japan's Yuka Kato (26.07), Australia's Marieke Guehrer (26.12), France's Melanie Henique (26.29) and USA's Dana Vollmer (26.32) earned the rest of the transfer spots into the finale. Guehrer is the defending world champion in the event.

"It was a good night tonight, and everyone is really fast," Guehrer said. "I tried my best just to catch up to them. I wasn't at my best today, but I'll try to do my best in the final."
