YMCA Long Course Nationals: Distance Events Open Meet

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 25. THE YMCA Long Course Nationals got underway today at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta. The mile events for both boys and girls took place on the first day.

ME Lyons' Shaylynn Spelman won the meet's opening race, the women's 1500 free, in 17:20.10. North Shore's India Boland took second in 17:23.80, while Spelman's teammate Kaitlyn Ferrara finished third in 17:31.36.

On the men's side, Somerset Hills' Bradley Wachenfeld took a two-second victory over Tri-Hampton's Shane McKenzie in the 1500; Wachenfeld clocked 16:16.53, while McKenzie touched in 16:18.67. Sarasota's Matt O'Donnell came in third in 16:25.51.

The meet continues Tuesday through Friday with four days of full prelims/finals action.
