Bolles to Host Second Annual JAX 50

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, April 16. THE second annual JAX 50 Sprint Dual Challenge will again bring some of the world's greatest swimmers to The Bolles School's Uible Pool. The event, to be held April 15-17, includes swimming competition, instruction, and fun while supporting an important cause. Finals will be streamed live and free by SwimmingWorld.TV! The Friday schedule will feature long course competition in each stroke at 100 meters and the 200 IM. Saturday's morning session includes 50 meter races of each stroke with the top-two male and female swimmers in the 50 freestyle advancing to the main event on Saturday evening. In the main event, the four qualifiers will join the group of elite swimmers to participate in a round-robin 50 freestyle competition.

The format of the event will allow for swimmers of all abilities, age 8 and up, to compete in the Friday and Saturday morning sessions, with trophies to the top three swimmers in each age group. The Saturday evening session will feature heats of only two swimmers at a time, racing head to head, for a chance to advance to the final.

On Sunday, a four-hour swimming clinic will provide the opportunity for the participants to meet and learn from the guest athletes. This is a rare chance to interact with so many of the world's elite swimmers and will certainly mark a highlight in many young swimmers' careers.

Last year's JAX 50 supported former Bolles swimmer Seun Adebiyi '01, in need of a bone marrow donor after being diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma and stem-cell leukemia, and the bone marrow donor center DKMS Americas. This year's JAX 50 will help the Planet Swim Foundation's project to potentially save lives in the Jacksonville metro area by teaching swimming to local underprivileged children who would not otherwise receive instruction in life saving skills.

Adebiyi, who was unable to attend last year's event due to his condition, is planning to attend the 2011 JAX 50. "I am forever indebted to this amazing initiative, and I want to express my thanks to all who have participated and/or will participate this year," Adebiyi said.

Several Olympians and internationally ranked swimmers, including Bolles alumni, have committed to participate in the 2011 JAX 50. Scheduled to appear are Olympians George Bovell (Bolles '02), Arianna Vanderpool Wallace (Bolles '08), Kara Lynn Joyce, Amanda Weir, Fred Bousquet, Nicolas Nilo, and Adam Brown. Also slated to appear are world record holder Jessica Hardy and NCAA Champion and World Championship medalist Josh Schneider. The swimmers will also be attending a "Dinner with the Stars" event at the Jacksonville Marriott on Friday evening including a photo and autograph session.

The following events highlight the JAX 50 schedule. Proceeds benefit the Planet Swim Foundation.
Friday, April 15- Dinner with the Stars at the Jacksonville Marriott, 8-11 p.m., $50
Saturday, April 16- JAX 50 Main Event, 5-7 p.m., $15
Sunday, April 17- Olympic Experience Clinic, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., $75
