IRVINE, California, August 21. USA's Jessica Hardy claimed her third gold medal of the meet with a meet record in the women's 50 free at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Hardy held off a crowded finale with a winning time of 24.63 to lover her own record of 24.75 set during prelims. She'd previously won the 50 breast and was part of the triumphant women's 400 free relay for her other two gold medals. The swim jumped Hardy into third in the world with Therese Alshammar (24.27) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (24.40) being ranked in front of her.

Teammate Amanda Weir grabbed second in 24.70 to move to seventh in the world, while Canada's Victoria Poon took third in 24.76. Poon just missed her Canadian record of 24.75 set last year.

Australia's Yolane Kukla placed fourth in 24.95, lowering her personal best of 25.08, while teammate Marieke Guehrer finished fifth in 24.99. New Zealand's Hayley Palmer (25.35), Brazil's Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato (25.36) and Japan's Tomoko Hagiwara (25.49) grabbed the rest of the championship final finishes.

USA's Kara Lynn Joyce was the defending champion in the event with a 25.10 from 2006, but fell victim to the two-per-country rule, but won the B final in 25.26. Joyce has been faster this year with a 24.86 from U.S. Nationals.
