German Long Course Nationals: Paul Biedermann Rockets To Top of World

BERLIN, Germany, July 4. THE last night of swimming at the German Long Course Nationals held in Berlin produced a top-ranked time as Paul Biedermann continued to round back into form.

Biedermann became the first person to clear 1:46 this year with a sterling time of 1:45.84 in the men's 200 free. The time pushed him ahead of previously top-ranked Yannick Agnel, who clocked a 1:46.30 at the Paris Open. Tim Wallburger touched well back in second with a 1:48.47, while Robin Backhaus went 1:48.99 for third-place honors.

Dorothea Brandt blazed the women's 50 free with a fourth-ranked performance of 24.88. Only Therese Alshammar (24.27), Ranomi Kromowidjojo (24.40) and Fran Halsall (24.77) have been faster.
