Jenny Thompson Leads March in Support of Dover Pools

DOVER, New Hampshire, May 28. WEDNESDAY night, Olympian Jenny Thompson led a march in support of keeping the Jenny Thompson Pool open in Dover, N.H., according to the Foster's Daily Democrat.

As previously reported, the City of Dover has been in talks to shut down the Jenny Thompson Pool as part of its plans to reduce its budget. Shutting the pool down would directly impact the Seacoast Swimming Association, which is a USA Swimming club team, as well as several high school and Masters teams from the area that use the pool.

Thompson led the march, which included hundreds of supporters, as a reminder to the City Council how important the pool is to the community.

While initial plans and proposals from the city included a full shutdown of the pool, new solutions are in discussion to potentially keep the pool open until a new revenue sources can be developed.

"At this point the walk is symbolic," said Dawn Haines, mother of a Seacoast Swimming Association swimmer, told the Foster's Daily Democrat. "When we first organized the walk we thought that we had to actively protest to convince the City Council to save the pools."
