FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 12. THE third night of short course yard action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way featured quite a few sectional records falling by the wayside.
After an astonishing time of 1:51.07 in the women's 200 back last night, Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin clocked a pretty strong women's 200 free time of 1:44.55 tonight. That time beat the previous sectional mark of 1:45.37 set by Lauren Thies in 2007. KING's Andie Taylor finished second in 1:45.46, while Bearcat's Tori Simenec touched third in 1:47.20.
Franklin was part of another sectional record in the Colorado Stars' women's 800 free relay. The foursome of Jordan Mattern, Kelly Naze, Caroline Piehl and Franklin touched in 7:14.12. The swim beat the previous mark of 7:21.87 set by KING in 2007. Franklin clocked a 1:45.98 on the anchor leg.
Taylor bounced back in the women's 400 IM with a sectional-standard time of 4:09.78. The time smashed the previous mark of 4:11.18 set by Caitlin Leverenz in 2007. Cascade's Amber McDermott touched second in 4:11.47, while Denver's Mackenzie Stein wound up third in 4:11.57.
Tiger Sharks' Jared Markham set a sectional record in the men's 400 IM with a 3:51.09. That clocking eclipsed the previous standard of 3:52.11 set by Jody Braden way back in 1992. Corvallis' Jacob Pebley earned second in 3:56.37, while North Jeffco's Andy Chevalier took third in 3:57.07. Boulder's Steve Schmuhl topped the men's 200 free in 1:37.95, while Hilltop's McKay King finished second in 1:39.61. Bend's Nic Morrell snared third in 1:40.36.
The Thunderbolts foursome of Gabriel Rooker, Neil O'Halloran, Aaron Young and Morgon Henderson-Kunz beat the sectional record in the men's 800 free relay with a 6:42.33. That time cleared the previous mark of 6:50.03 set back in 2007.

March 12, 2010 Franklin's 200 Free also appears to be another 13-14 NAG set by Stephanie Elkins in 1978. Submitted by: coachcj
March 12, 2010 Jared Markham's 3:51+ 400 IM moves him into sixth all-time among 15-16 boys in 400 IM but he has a ways to go t oatch the NAG record-holder, a certain Mr. Phelps, who swam a 3:42.0 in 2002.
