Passages: WAVE YMCA's Jon Brenner -- February 2, 2010

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin, February 2. JON Brenner, a longtime head coach for the WAVE YMCA team in Wisconsin, has succumbed to brain cancer according to a report by WKBT in Wisconsin.

Brenner, who coached at WAVE for almost 20 years, was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2008 according to the report.

"When he'd walk around, other people wanted to be around him because you just felt good when you were around Jon because he believed in you and he believed in kids, he believed in people being able to do the best they can," WAVE Senior Group Swim Coach Eric Wojta told WKBT.

"What an inspiring man," Jim Everett, immediate past chair YMCA Swimming & Diving Advisory Committee, said. "He exemplified all that the Y is about and was the role model we would hope all coaches could be."

Jon is survived by his wife Terri, who also works at the YMCA and their three daughters.
