ROME, Italy, August 2. THE top three swimmers all surpassed the world record in the women's 50 breast at the FINA World Championships.

Russia's Yuliya Efimova checked in with a 30.09 to break the world record of 30.23 set by Canada's Amanda Reason last month. Efimova posted the second-fastest time of all time, as her unratified global mark of 30.05 set in an unapproved suit in April.

Rebecca Soni of the U.S. claimed the silver in 30.11 to shatter Kasey Carlson's American record of 30.34 set earlier in the meet.

Australia's Sarah Katsoulis completed the podium with a 30.16, also under the previous world record and well ahead of the Australian record of 30.31 set by Jade Edmistone.

The Netherlands' Moniek Nijhuis (30.46), Canada's Annamay Pierse (30.53), Carlson (30.65), Reason (30.67) and Australia's Tarnee White (30.91) also swam in the finale.
