USA Swimming Sectionals, Minneapolis: Marissa Davies, Alex Wold, Rachel Bootsma Set Meet Records
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, July 23. THE second night of long course swimming produced a trio of meet records at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Minneapolis.
Minnesota's Marissa Davies cleared the listed meet record in the women's 200 free with a time of 2:01.93. The readout wiped out the 2:02.37 set by Andrea Hupman in 2006. Minnesota's Stacy Busack (2:01.97) and Ashley Steenvoorden (2:02.01) finished second and third, while also besting the previous mark. Results from the A and B finals of the men's 200 free were not made available at press time.
Badger's Aja Van Hout, 16, topped the women's 400 IM in 4:55.81. Aquajets' Hailey Szews finished second in 4:57.99, while Elmbrook's Kelsey Hojan Clark placed third in 4:58.34. Minnesota's Alex Wold lowered the listed meet record in the men's 400 IM with a 4:23.29. The swim beat the 4:25.27 set by Mike Alexandrov in 2002. Peoria Area's Matthew Elliott took second in 4:28.87, while Rochester's Brian Kiel touched third in 4:32.22.
Aquajets' Rachel Bootsma clocked a time of 1:01.23 in the women's 100 back to best the listed meet record. The time beat her 1:02.41 set during prelims. Minnesota's Castina Wabeke earned second in 1:03.65, while Rapid City's Jacie Beagle, 15, completed the top three in 1:03.90. Tucson Ford's Peter Stacy posted a first-place time of 57.72 in the men's 100 back. Hawkeye's Max Dittmer finished second in 58.06, while Badger's Andrew Teduits garnered third in 58.97.
