USA Swimming Sectionals, Minneapolis: Host Minnesota Controls First Night
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, July 22. THE hosts from the University of Minnesota put together a strong night with plenty of triumphs during the first night of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Minneapolis.
Minnesota's Stacy Busack claimed the women's 100 free in 56.20. Waves' Lindsay Gendron finished second in 56.54 with Minnesota's Marissa Davies taking third in 56.83.
Minnesota swept the top four spots in the men's 100 free. Stephen Miller touched out Alex Wold, 50.71 to 50.72. Curt Carlson placed third in 50.99 with Michael Richards finishing fourth in 51.33.
Minnesota's Jillian Tyler topped the women's 200 breast in 2:30.79. Aquajets' Abigail Duncan captured second in 2:33.12 with Academy Bullets' Karolina Wartalowicz winding up third in 2:36.94.
Peoria Area's Matt Elliott cruised in the men's 200 breast in 2:14.91. Aquajets' Van Donkersgoed posted a second-place 2:18.32, while Minnesota's Zach Weis placed third in 2:19.34.
Minnesota's Molly Belk won the women's 200 fly in 2:15.69, just beating Lake Country's Emma Goral, who took second in 2:15.80. St. Croix's Kaela Anderson completed the top three in 2:18.39.
Badger's Aja Van Hout snatched the women's 800 free in 8:51.47, while Minnesota's Courtney Veerman touched second in 9:02.19. Aquajets' Emily Blasko placed third in 9:02.51.
Minnesota's Michael Holmes earned the men's 800 free title in 8:10.49. Teammate Nicolas Zebley claimed second in 8:25.93, while Fox Valley's Burke Sims rounded out the podium in 8:29.54.
Results from the men's 200 fly were not made available at press time.
