FINA World Championships, Synchronized Swimming: Russia Leads Way During Team Technical Prelims -- July 18, 2009

ROME, Italy, July 18. THE first day of synchronized swimming began with the preliminary rounds of the team technical competition at the FINA World Championships held in Rome.


Russia's team of Daria Korobova, Anna Nasekina, Aleksandra Patskevich, Victoria Shestakovich, Alla Shishkina, Elizaveta Stepanova, Anzhelika Timanina and Sofia Volkova led the way with 98 points. The team scored matching 49s in both execution and overall impression.

Spain's squad of Ona Carbonell, Raquel Corral, Margalida Crespi, Andrea Fuentes, Thais Henriquez, Paula Klamburg, Irina Rodriguez and Cristina Salvador qualified second with 97.5 points. The Spanish picked up 49 points from overall impression and 48.5 points from execution.

China's contingent of Huang Xuechen, Jiang Tingting, Jiang Wenwen, Liu Qu, Luo Xi, Wang Na, Wu Yiwen and Zhang Xiaohuan grabbed third with 96.167 points. China earned 48.167 points in execution and 48 points in overall impression.

Canada (95.5), Japan (95), Italy (94.33), United States (93.166), Ukraine (92.33), France (91) and Korea (87.667) made up the rest of the top 10 in prelims.
