INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, July 8. IT didn't take long for Longhorn's Aaron Peirsol to reclaim his world record in the men's 100 back.

Trialing Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers at the turn, 25.33 to 25.35, Peirsol powered to the global mark with a sizzling time of 51.94. The effort crushed the 52.38 clocked by Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer Faber a week ago.

Comparative splits:
Wildeboer Faber: 25.54, 52.38 (26.84)
Peirsol: 25.35, 51.94 (26.59)

Notably, Peirsol's time also broke his American record of 52.54 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"It was a beautiful race," Peirsol said. "I knew I could do something special tonight. I am a little speechless. I think more than any one particular thing. Anyone can break a world record on any day, but consistency is something that should be a little more cherished. Even on my worst day, I try to win."

Grevers wound up claiming second behind Peirsol with a time of 53.11. He also produced a second-place effort behind Peirsol at the 2008 Beijing Games as the U.S. went 1-2 in the event. Grevers' time put him sixth in the world this year.

Nick Thoman, swimming unattached, settled for third just behind Grevers with a sterling time of 53.12. That time moved him to seventh in the world this year.

July 8, 2009 He decided to not wear a full body suit. Said he tried it, that's not me.

Not THAT'S a memo to the competition. He's the king and has the final say. Greatest of all time.
