World University Games, Diving: Men's Three-Meter Synchro, Women's One-Meter Individual Events Complete -- July 4, 2009

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 4. THE first night of diving at the World University Games featured a pair of gold medal efforts from the Chinese.

In the men's three-meter synchronized event, Wu Minghong and Zhang Sen broke the 400-point barrier to win gold with a 404.07 for China. Ukraine's tandem of Oleksiy Prygorov and Jllya Kvasha finished just behind with a silver-winning tally of 396.09. The U.S. pair of Daniel Mazzaferro and Kelly Marx completed the podium with a bronze-winning total of 379.47 points.

China dominated the women's one-meter finale with a 1-2 finish. Dong Jun topped all-comers with a tally of 282.40 points. Compatriot Yao Xinyi took silver with 280.25 points. Ashley Karnes of the U.S. rounded out the medalwinners with a third-place 277.85 points.


The men's three-meter individual event takes place tomorrow.
