MISSION VIEJO, California, June 18. THE initial evening of the TYR Swim Meet of Champions featured distance events with Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton and New Zealand's Kane Radford topping their respective events.
Sutton and Kate Ziegler of The Fish provided some Olympic fireworks as the pair of Olympians took to the water for the women's 800 free events. Sutton, swimming in front of her home crowd, dominated the distance event with a time of 8:27.60. She finished just five seconds off Ziegler's meet record of 8:22.57 from 2007.
Ziegler claimed second in 8:43.61 as she returns from a hiatus spanning since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Trojan's Whitney Sprague completed the top three in 8:50.81.
Radford, representing the Mission Viejo Nadadores, raced to victory in the men's 1500 free with a 15:41.28. New Zealand compatriot snatched second-place honors with a time of 15:49.65.
Mission's Deni Cullom (15:55.38) and Nick Divan (16:00.51) touched third and fourth in the event.
