Santa Clara Invitational: Amber McDermott, Chad La Tourette Claim Distance Titles

SANTA CLARA, California, June 11. THE initial evening of long course meter action at the Santa Clara Invitational featured distance freestyle events.

Longhorn's Amber McDermott posted a 16:38.06 to grab the win in the women's 1500 free. Pleasanton's Jennifer Narum touched second in 16:46.33, while Razorback's Jamie Marks placed third in 16:51.15.

Chad La Tourette led a trio of swimmers under the meet record in the men's 800 free. He clocked a time of 7:53.56 for the victory, while Australia's Robert Hurley (7:53.87) and Ryan Napoleon (7:54.44) rounded out the top three. They each cleared the meet standard of 7:57.73 set by Erik Vendt back in 2004.
