Swimming Technique Show Debuts on Swimming World TV With Ron Johnson: Analyzing Stroke Rate, Tempo and Technique of Straight-Arm Freestyle -- May 25, 2009

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 25. IN place of the regular edition of The Morning Swim Show, Swimming World TV is debuting a new show this Memorial Day holiday, called Swimming Technique.

The inaugural guest on the show is Olympic, NCAA and Masters coach Ron Johnson, who talks with host Brent Rutemiller about the resurging fad of swimming freestyle with a straight-arm recovery. The top sprinters in the world – from Fred Bousquet and Eamon Sullivan – use the technique because it usually has a better stroke rate and higher tempo than swimming with a bent-arm recovery. Watch the video below to see more from this interview.

Johnson and Rutemiller analyze Bousquet's 50 free swim at the Charlotte UltraSwim, in which he set a U.S. Open record, noting Bousquet's hand entry and tempo. They also break down some of the stroke rates and tempos of the top swimmers of the 400 free relay in Beijing.

Other swimmers analyzed in this interview include Alain Bernard, Eamon Sullivan, Michael Phelps, Jason Lezak, Inge de Bruijn and Janet Evans.
