USA Swimming Sectionals, Indianapolis: More Meet Records Tumble at IU Nat

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 28. THE third evening of long course meter action featured several more meet records falling at the USA Swimming Sectionals held at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI.

West Michigan's Emily Bos opened the third night with a meet-record time of 1:01.38 in the women's 100 back. The time cleared the 1:01.72 Bos set earlier in the day. Westerville's Kate McNeilis placed second in 1:02.42, while Champaign County's Lisa Boyce touched third in 1:04.49. Cincinnati's David Plummer clocked a 55.28 in the men's 100 back to break the meet record of 56.39 set by Nick Thoman in 2004. IU's Doug Spraul (58.60) and Jimmy Barbiere (59.13) touched second and third.

In middle-distance action, IU's Courey Schaefer won the women's 400 free in 4:22.53, while Cincinnati Marlin Alex Norris took second in 4:24.43. Lafayette's Megan Gallagher placed third in 4:25.22. IU's Titus Knight claimed the men's 400 free meet record with a 3:58.71 to break the 3:58.95 set by Rob Andrews in 2007. Barbiere finished second in 3:58.80, while Oakland Live Y'er Jan Hanulik took third in 4:00.79.

Center Grove's Emma Schoettmer won the women's 100 breast in 1:11.70, while Carmel's Lauren Stauder (1:12.64) and SWAC's Tori Bagan (1:12.87) rounded out the top three. IU's Daniel Sliwinski followed in the men's 100 breast with a 1:02.86 for the win. Kevin Puskaric finished second in 1:03.63, while West Michigan's Eric Solis touched third in 1:05.20.

OLY's Eva Lehtonen clinched the women's 200 fly in 2:15.49, while Carmel's Rhi Sheets touched second in 2:16.54. OLY's Megan Fox finished third in 2:18.09. IU's Tony Mattar then won the men's 200 fly in 2:05.05 with Ricky Forrest (2:05.30) and IU's Tyler Shedron (2:05.32) completing the podium.

In 400 medley relay action, Carmel's Jessie Hammes, Stauder, Trish Regan and Megan Detro won the women's title in 4:19.34 to break the meet record of 4:19.85 set by Cincinnati Marlins in 2008. The Marlins' men's team of Evan Schwartz, Joe Albers, David Sanders and Will Lawley won the men's crown in 3:56.77.
