USA Swimming Sectionals, Indianapolis: First Night Complete

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 26. THE first night of long course meter action took place at the USA Swimming Sectionals held at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

Berkeley Aquatic's Lauren Ross won the women's 800 free in 9:06.76, while Lafayette Area's Megan Gallagher (9:08.55) and Center Grove's Kristen Nunnelly (9:08.55) tied for second.

Westerville's Kate McNeilis followed with a 2:15.02 in the women's 200 back for the win, while West Michigan's Courtney Bartholomew finished second in 2:18.62. Carmel's Jessie Hammes placed third in 2:18.69.

Indiana's Doug Spraul (2:04.81), Jimmy Barbiere (2:06.21) and Kevin Happ (2:07.39) swept the men's 200 back, while West Michigan's Emily Bos won the women's 50 free in 26.17. Duneland's Olivia Kabacinski touched second in 26.84, while McNeilis placed third in 26.85.

New Albany's Joe Doyle captured the men's 50 free title in 23.04, while IU's Bryan Chovanec (23.39) and Ante Zoricic (23.55) wound up second and third.

IU had another top-three sweep in the men's 1500 free with Ryan Hinshaw (16:01.49), Brenden Butler (16:07.59) and Bart Ginocchio (16:10.82) completing the podium.

Center Grove's Emma Schoettmer claimed the women's 200 breast in 2:36.27, while Oakland Live Y'er Megan Fox took second in 2:37.07. Fox's teammate Hannah Mattar placed third in 2:38.40.

IU's Daniel Sliwinski won the men's 200 breast in 2:16.84, while Club Paradise's Leo MacGregor finished second in 2:19.85. IU's Aaron Opell claimed third in 2:21.65.
