COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 21. FLORIDA's Gemma Spofforth stamped her name on "The Most Dominant Backstroker in the NCAA" trophy with her second triumph of the week. This time, Spofforth clocked a meet record in the women's 200-yard back after winning the 100 earlier.

Spofforth's time of 1:49.11 broke Natalie Coughlin's meet record of 1:49.52 and gave Spofforth the second-fastest time in the event behind only her NCAA and U.S. Open record of 1:48.34 set at the SEC Championships. The win is also Spofforth's third straight in the event and gave Florida its fifth 200 back title. That moved the Gators into sole possession of second behind Texas' seven. Prior to Spofforth's three titles, Kristen Linehan won in 1989 and 1990.

Additionally, Spofforth became just the fourth swimmer to ever win the 200 back three times. The other three-timers are Natalie Coughlin, California; Betsy Mitchell, Texas; and Sue Walsh, North Carolina.

Florida also dominated the event with an amazing 1-2-3 finish in the event, typically unheard of at the Division I level. Teresa Crippen dropped a swift time of 1:51.59 for second, while Stephanie Proud took third in 1:51.81.

Georgia kept its lead with 341.5 points, while Arizona moved into second with 310.5 points. California (302), Auburn (220) and Stanford (219.5) made up the top five.
