SHEFFIELD, England, March 18. JOANNE Jackson kept on rolling during a career-best weekend at the British Long Course Championships as she downed the Commonwealth record in the women's 200 free.
James Gibson began the night with a winning effort in the men's 100 breast. Gibson checked in with a time of 1:00.22, while Kristopher Gilchrist placed second in 1:00.98. Darren Mew wrapped up third in 1:01.42.
Jackson continued her remarkable meet with a Commonwealth record in the women's 200 free. She stopped the clock in 1:56.47 to beat her time of 1:56.61 set in Rome last summer. Caitlin McClatchey wound up second in 1:57.58, while Jazmin Carlin finished third in 1:58.85 ahead of Hannah Miley's fourth-place 1:59.42.
James Goddard followed in the men's 200 IM with a near-record pace. He posted a time of 1:57.99 for the title to just miss his record of 1:57.72 set last year. Lewis Smith collected a distant second in 2:01.05 with Michael Jamieson placing third in 2:01.48.
National-record holder Kate Haywood earned the women's 100 breast crown in 1:08.59. Her record of 1:07.56 still remained on the books, however. Lowri Tynan grabbed second in 1:10.21, while Charlotte Barnes took third in 1:10.73.
Another near-miss occurred in the men's 200 free as Ross Davenport raced to victory in 1:46.50. The swim came up short of David Carry's national record of 1:46.47 set at the Beijing Olympics. Andrew Hunter took second in 1:47.14, while David Davies finished third in 1:47.50.
Ellen Gandy topped the women's 200 fly semifinal round with a 2:09.57, while Jessica Dickons (2:10.79) and Miley (2:11.50) were among the top three. Marco Loughran (1:59.10) and Goddard (1:59.92) cleared 2:00 to lead semifinal swimming in the men's 200 back.
