USA Swimming Sectionals, Cary: Several Stars Shine on Second Night

CARY, North Carolina, March 6. THE first full night of swimming took place at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Cary, N.C.

SwimAtlanta's Amanda Weir began the night with a victory in the women's 200-yard free with a time of 1:45.73, while SwimMAC's Mack Montgomery picked up the men's 200-yard free title with a time of 1:36.73.

A pair of 15-year-olds battled in the women's 100-yard breast with Auburn's Megan Molnar touching out Colonel Aquatics' Kaylin Burchell, 1:01.37 to 1:01.41. SwimMAC's Mark Gangloff eased through the men's 100-yard breast with a top time of 53.47.

Waves of Wilmington's Cari Blalock knocked off Weir in the women's 100-yard fly, 53.79 to 54.02, while SwimAtlanta's Andrejs Duda clinching the men's 100-yard fly crown in 47.66.

Raleigh Swim's Sarah Henry pocketed the women's 400-yard IM title in 4:07.79, while Greenville's Matt Houser posted a winning time of 3:46.82 in the men's 400-yard IM.

The 400-yard free relays closed the night with SwimAtlanta's Caroline Kenney, Allyson Sweeney, Jana Mangimelli and Weir winning the women's laurels in 3:22.07. SwimMAC's Thomas Santoli, Gangloff, Corey Day and Cullen Jones ripped through the men's race with a winning effort of 2:59.80.
