SAMMAMISH, Washington, January 3. KOMO-TV is reporting that inspirational 2008 U.S. Paralympic swimmer Marin Morrison passed away on Friday at the age of 18.

Morrison, who competed at the Paralympics in Beijing after "a near fatal stroke and a fourth brain surgery" in the spring, succumbed Friday morning to brain cancer.

KOMO-TV also reported that "[Morrison] was a nationally ranked age group swimmer and her high school's most valuable swimmer when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 14 in February 2005. After two surgeries, she recovered and continued to compete at a high level for her club team SwimAtlanta through the summer of 2005."

Swimming World extends its condolences to the friends and family of Morrison as they celebrate her life and mourn her passing.
