Swimming World Six-Star Promotion: Chloe Sutton

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 30. OPEN water Olympian Chloe Sutton is turning some heads in the short course yards realm. So much so, that she's earned promotion to elite six-star status in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings powered by Take Your Marks.

"I am very excited to be a six star recruit!" Sutton told Swimming World upon hearing about her promotion. "I have not been able to train or compete much in short course for the past few years while training to excel in open water. After the Olympics, I took a little break and didn't start training for this season until mid-October. Coach [Bill] Rose and I have been working on many new things in the past few months. It is so exciting that we are just scratching the surface of what I need to do to be stronger in short course, and I am already seeing results. With all of the wonderful things I have been able to experience with swimming since I was 13 years old, I have never really felt 16. I am feeling 16 again, and loving the fact that I have so much to learn!"

Sutton, who is homeschooled and could graduate with either the Class of 2010 or 2011 depending on her educational plans, is going to be an impact distance freestyle recruit for some lucky university. Her top time in the 1650-yard free, set at the Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am, is a 16:00.44. That effort would have placed her in the top eight scorers at the NCAA Division I Championships.

Sutton also has the potential to score points in the 500-yard free as her time of 4:43.28 would have put her in the B final this year. She also owns a B cut time of 1:47.82 in the 200-yard free.

To be a six-star, a recruit must have a lifetime best short course yard time that would either place them in the past year's A final of an event at the NCAA Division I Championships, or own multiple times that would have reached B finals in the past year

If you know of anyone else of high school age that has recorded a time that would have put them into A finals at last year's NCAA Division I Championships, please let us know via Reaction Time.
