Texas Invitational: Lara Jackson Breaks American Record in Prelims
AUSTIN, Texas, December 4. WITH some of the top swimmers in the country duking it out at the USA Swimming Short Course Championships in Atlanta, most of the rest of them are battling in Austin, Texas at the Texas Invitational.
This level of competition led to Lara Jackson of the University of Arizona going off in the women's 50-yard freestyle preliminary round with an American record.
Jackson ripped off a time of 21.37 to crush Natalie Coughlin's national standard of 21.46 set last year at the 2007 USA Swimming Short Course Nationals in Atlanta.
Notably, Jackson also broke the facility record of 21.69 set by Maritza Correira during the 2002 NCAA Championships.
Wonder what finals will bring?
