BEIJING, China, August 22. SHEILA Taormina is now officially in the history books as the only woman to compete in four Olympic Games in three different sports after taking 19th overall in the modern pentathlon this week.
Taormina finished with an overall tally of 5304 points in the event that includes shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running. Germany's Lena Schoneborn won gold with 5792 points, while Britain's Heather Fell took silver with 5752 points. Ukraine's Victoria Tereshuk rounded out the podium with 5672 points for bronze.
Taormina first became an Olympian as a swimmer in 1996 before becoming a triathlete and making the 2000 and 2004 teams.

In 1996, she won a gold medal as part of the U.S. 800 freestyle relay in Atlanta, while taking sixth and 23rd in the 2000 and 2004 triathlons, respectively.

August 22, 2008 If you look at the scores for each event, Sheila was actually in the medal hunt except for the epee. Remove the epee or give her another couple years to really perfect her ability, and this woman could have had a very strong chance for a medal 12 years after winning gold in Atlanta! August 24, 2008 Sheila is a great person and she really did awesome outside of the epee. She killed the field in the swim portion, setting the Olympic record for the pentathalon swim. Go Sheila! Submitted by: Ako
