European Junior Nationals: Great Britain Posts Meet Record in Girls 800 Free Relay
BELGRADE, Serbia, August 2. THE Great Britain team of Rebecca Turner, Lucy Worrall, Alexandra Hooper and Anne Bochmann knocked two seconds from the European Junior National meet record in the girls 15-16 800 freestyle relay in Belgrade today.
The squad clocked a time of 8:08.82 to beat the 8:10.57 set by Russia back in 2003.
Meanwhile, Pal Joensen of Faroes won again, this time with a time of 7:56.90 to capture the boys 17-18 800 free title. Raoul Shaw of France (8:02.70) and Pavel Medvetskiy of Russia (8:04.56) finished second and third.
Spain's Patricia Castro Ortega topped the girls 15-16 200 free in 2:00.45, while Netherlands' Sharon van Rouwendaal (2:01.30) and France's Camille Radou (2:01.74) completed the top three.
Christopher Walker-Hebborn of Great Britain touched first in the boys 17-18 200 back in 1:59.61, while Hungary's Gabor Balog took second in 2:01.01. France's Eric Ress earned third in 2:01.43.
Italy's Silvia Di Pietro claimed the girls 15-16 100 fly in 59.28 to break the meet record of Beatrix Boulsevicz set with a 59.77 in 2003. Germany's Lena Kalla placed second in 1:00.28, while Hungary's Beatrix Bordas took third in 1:00.77.
Other winners included Belgium's Jolien Sysmans in the girls 15-16 50 free (25.40) and Russia's Artem Dubovskoy in the boys 17-18 50 back (26.25).
