U.S. Olympic Trials: Gary Hall Jr. Addresses Media at Press Conference -- June 29, 2008
OMAHA, Nebraska, June 29. U.S. sprint veteran Gary Hall Jr. addressed the media today at a press conference schedule by the United States Olympic Committee.
During the conversation, he spoke about doping issues, the swim suit controversy, and the sport becoming ever more professional.
He also talked about his continued presence in the sport as an active swimmer, and opined that the men's 50 free is the most stacked event in the country.
June 29, 2008 Nice cop out Gary! Most stacked event in the country? Weakest possibly. Ever think about the 100back? Piersol, Phelps, Grevers, Lochte, Bal, Marshall. Some swimmers are so in doubt in the backstroke that they are making a run just for a relay spot in the free! (Grevers) Submitted by: Dom
June 29, 2008 the 50 free will always be "stacked" as he put it. its so close and can be so random that theres never really a significant favorite. if the were 4 or 5 guys all capable of holding the world record then i'd believe it, but, not right now gary. i wish him luck though and hope he makes it (dont think he will, though) Submitted by: bwnorx
June 29, 2008 If you can't see what Gary brings to the WHOLE sport, you're missing the big picture. Would you prefer that he dismissed the event and every athlete in contention? Regardless of who's in it, the 50 Free has always been one of the most watched events. It would be foolhardy of him or anyone else to cannibalize the event in an attempt to bring more attention to the less spectator friendly events. Submitted by: Retired
