Argentina Nationals: Sergio Andres Ferreyra Lowers Own National Record

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, June 2. THE indoor long course pool of Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento (CENARD) was witness to some dreams coming true at the Argentina Nationals. Two fathers (both have daughters) were the protagonists of the meet with their achievements.

Sergio Andres Ferreyra began his task on Thursday with a national record in 100 meter breaststroke (1.03.06) bettering his own mark that lasted 10 years (1.03.30). He also achieved an Olympic B cut, he has achieved a B time with 1.03.32 previously. In the last day of competition, he again claimed an Olympic B cut, this time in the 200 meter breast with a time of 2.18.01, which missed the long standing national record of Pablo Minelli (2.17.96). Ferreyra is coached by Sergio Oscar Sainz in the province of Corrientes and he swims for Club Regatas.

Eduardo German Otero from Necochea and his coach Marcelo "Yuri" Quaglia were the happiest men of the second night of finals when "Edu" hit the pads after swimming 100 meter backstroke and the scoreboard flashed his time of 56.38 that represents a ticket to Beijing.

Jose Martin Meolans was present and won the 50 and 100 meter freestyle. He is under heavy load, and in few days he will fly to Sierra Nevada for high altitude training before his fourth Olympic Games.

Georgina Bardach (bronze medal 400 IM in Athens) took the first spot in three races (200 and 400 IM and 200 fly), but with times too far of her best. What will happen with her in Beijing is a big question as she did not perform well after a coaching change.
