Texas Senior Circuit: Pool Looks to Be Short, Spindrift Beck Did Not Break 50 Breast World Record -- May 18, 2008

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, May 18. WHILE Swimming World is still awaiting official confirmation from pool officials regarding the length of the pool, trusted sources have stated that the pool at the Texas Senior Circuit meet held in College Station is short. There is talk that the pool measured at 49.97 meters yesterday.

This first came to light based on some online swimming community conversations, but really hit the limelight when Spindrift Beck of the Dallas Mustangs stopped the clock in 29.77 in the women's 50 breast preliminaries this morning.

That time would have obliterated Jade Edmiston's world record of 30.31 set in 2006, and crushed Jessica Hardy's American record of 30.63 set in 2007.

May 18, 2008 Through what online site did you get these results? I tried searching online yesterday for this specific meet and couldn't find a link.

May 18, 2008 How old is this pool? I think it was built around 1995 and it has held numerous BIG meets.

A&M has a famous engineering department and now we find out that the pool is short by a fraction over an inch?

Unbelievable...................

May 18, 2008 It looks more like there was a timing issue at the pool...

The results now posted from this morning read:
Event 25 Women 50 LC Meter Breaststroke

Name Age Team Seed Prelims
==================================================================
=== Preliminaries ===

1 Tinnon, Elizabe 22 Longhorn 1:09.94 33.42

4 Beck, Spindrift 17 Mustangs 1:11.06 34.24
5 Collymore, Kimb 18 Coral Springs 1:16.31 34.38
6 Smith, Skylar 15 Aquastar 1:17.04 34.48
7 McKnight, Linds 14 Coral Springs 1:14.82 34.51
8 Betzen, Kannon 19 Unattached 1:12.82 34.62

So Beck wasn't even the top qualifier never mind the world record breaker.

May 18, 2008 DCswimguy,

Yeah, I'm definitely mentioning her real time during my finals recap.

Also, I'm hearing some talk about USA Swimming accepting converted times from this meet for Trials. Don't want to hurt the swimmers that get their cuts here.

Plus, when you think about it, all of the Olympic roster spot contenders already have all their times, or should have. The people getting cuts this weekend for the first time probably aren't going to be contending for finals in Omaha. Why not let them go?

May 18, 2008 It can't just be a distance thing. Correcting her time from 49.97m to 50m would be ~0.01s, definitely at the very most 0.03s, which would still put her WELLLL under the WR. It's gotta be a timing issue.
