FINA World Open Water Championships: Pre-Race Swimsuit Check

By Steven Munatones, Swimming World Special Correspondent

SEVILLE, Spain, April 30. IN Seville, at the FINA World Open Water Championships, the race course was open today for the athletes from 41 countries under marvelous weather conditions.

As many swimmers gathered on the starting dock and practiced swimming in the Guadalquivir River, many were commenting on the type of suits that the different teams and athletes are wearing.

Despite the tremendous success of some of the high-tech swimsuits among their pool counterparts, teams from Russia, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Brazil, France and Mexico donned blueseventy's new PointZero3 suit. This included many recent FINA World Cup champions, former world 10K swimming champions and both of the current world 10K swimming champions: Vladimir Dyatchin and Larisa Ilchenko of Russia.

But, many swimmers were trying on various new suits today on the open water swimming course this afternoon. The swimmers have only a few more days to make a decision on what suit is best fitted for a nearly two-hour swim in 72-74 degree water.
